5 Questions You Need to Ask Yourself When Choosing a Business or Career That’s Right for You

Choosing the right business or career for you is not something you take lightly. You should be in this for the long-haul and therefore you need to carefully look at your options. Here are 5 questions you can begin with to help you finalize your decision.

Question #1 - What do I enjoy doing?

Perhaps you’ve been in a career because others have said that it’s a good industry to be in. Or you want to start a business but you’re looking at something that’s been around for some time but you really don’t enjoy that type of work. In order for you to last in any market you need to love what you do because it’s that love that will keep you going through the tough times.

It’s the love and joy of doing what you do that will help you keep pressing forward to find solutions to obstacles and overcome setbacks. It’s what makes it all worth it at the end of the day besides the monetary reward that comes from it.

Question #2 - How can I be of best service to others?

Businesses thrive when they meet the needs of others. The more people that are looking for the solution you have to their problems the better off it is for your business or career. What have you done in the past that has helped others? How have you helped someone solve a problem he/she was having? How many other people are there that have the same problem and are actively looking for a solution for the problem that you’ve helped others solve in the past?

Question #3 - How profitable is this area of business?

Do your research to check for profitability in this area of business or career. Do a Google search for your industry niche. Search on Amazon to see how many books are on your topic and search your local bookstores as well. What specific topics are bestsellers? These are good indicators for the research groundwork already done by others.

Question #4 - Am I very knowledgeable in this area?

What knowledge do you have in the area of interest? Best option is to already have the knowledge needed to start your business or change your career. Second option would be to acquire the required knowledge needed to carry out your plan.

However, if both of these are not at your disposal for starting a business you can look at partnering with someone who already possesses this knowledge or experience that you’re lacking. It will shorten your learning curve as well as free up your time to focus on using your strengths towards growing your business.

Question #5 - Is this industry a fad or does it have longevity?

Some industries are evergreen. It doesn’t matter whether it was the 1600 or 2020, people will always desire to improve their lives, need food, shelter, clothing etc. Fads will come and go leaving you looking for something new to start over again. You must know if you are the type of person that’s always looking for the next ‘new’ thing. If you’re not you should be looking at an industry that’s more sustainable.

Keep in mind that even within a more sustainable industry you also have fads as well, such as the fashion industry. You must be aware when certain fashions are fads and will go through the phase to make way for something more practical or acceptable. Just be aware of the trends in your industry.

First you need to change the way you look at yourself and others. It’s okay to appreciate and admire the uniqueness in others. But you were given special qualities that set you apart from the mass and these qualities are what you need to focus on, build up and appreciate about you.

Here is your physical proof that you are unique; no one has your fingerprints, they are one of a kind. If you are a twin, not even your twin has your fingerprints. You’ve been individually gift-wrapped even though you shared the same birthing space as your twin.

We’ve been programmed to look outside ourselves for the hero when we are the hero within. If you are constantly trying to fit into somebody’s mold you’ll find it quite exhausting because you were not meant to try to fit into someone else’s ‘fingerprints’. Is it possible that your current unhappiness is majorly based on doing things the way that others say you should for your life?

If you were to truly live your life what would it look like? Think about that for a minute. You know, we sometimes say, “If I were to live my life over again I would do…..” Here’s where you can stop and use that line and fill it in with what you would do with your life and what you would do differently if you took the time to allow yourself to be you.

What can you do today to begin living the unique you? How can you change your perspective of you? If you saw yourself as special, not necessarily more special that anybody else because we are all special, but special in your own self, how could this change your life? Do you think that you’d be able to lift your head instead of walking with your head buried in the ground?

If you saw that you came to earth for a unique purpose that only you can do, how would that change the way you think about the meaning of your life? Would that place importance on your being here on planet earth?

Here’s where you can do some soul-searching, turn your focus inward to the truth of you.

5 Things You Should Know Before You Start a Business or Change Your Career

Starting a new business or changing a career as with any major changes in your life, even though they may be exciting, can affect you mentally, emotionally and physically. Major decisions require a clear mind with focus.  You must be prepared to face the challenges ahead of you.

Let's look at 5 things you should know that will lay the foundation for starting a business or changing your career.

#1 - You must have a strong 'Why'

Your 'Why', which is your reason for wanting to start a business or change your career must be stronger than any obstacles, setbacks or disappointments. Your 'Why' brings you clarity and gives you a target, direction, purpose and focus as you work towards getting the results you want.

Action Step - Take a pen and paper and do some self-searching. This exercise allows you to get clear perspective. List 5 of most important reasons you want to start a business or change your career. Make sure you can emotionally connect with each of your reasons. Your emotional connections go deeper and create stronger bonds than the ones you come up with logically.

#2 - What difference would this make in your life?

How would having a business or changing your career affect you, your lifestyle, your family life and friendships? Really think about this and write out a list of 5 positives and also take a look at the negative impact it may have on your life as well. Doing this exercise will help you see the positive in what you're doing and prepare you for any negatives that may show up.

#3 - Address your fears and failures

It's important that you address any fears or uncertainties you have at this point. Because until you confront them, acknowledge them and look for ways to over your fears and deal with past failures, they will come up at you at a time when you need to be strong.

Action Step - Take a pen and paper and write down your fears. Have you tried a business before and failed? How is your fear of failure hindering you from taking the next step or sabotaging your progress?
How can you see your fears and failures differently? How can you use this fear and failure and turn them into courage and success?

#4 - Develop stick-to-itiveness

Once you make the decision to start a business or change your career you must renew your commitment each day by the actions you take on a consistent basis. You must be in for the long-haul - through the mountains and valleys of your business or ideal career. This is where your emotional connection to your 'Why' will help you to keep your commitment to your desire.

#5 - Develop the bulldozer mindset

You must have a focused determination to succeed in anything. That's what I call the bulldozer mindset where you become intensely focused on achieving your goal, even if you have to change the method you are still true to your destination. The bulldozer mindset sees passed your failures, beyond your limitations and your current circumstances and keeps you focused on reaching your target destination.

I look forward to inspiring you to change your life from the inside out now and empower yourself.

And don't forget, if you know someone who would benefit from this training, please pass it on to them. We can make a difference one person at a time.

I'm back with Important New changes

I hope you're enjoying your summer and have taken some time to get out and enjoy nature or at least spent some time with family and friends.

As you know, I've taken some time off with my family for the past few weeks. We've been working with our girls helping them improve their vocals. Our daughters have been singing and they recently did a performance at the local Children's Art Festival which landed their photos in front page and center fold of the local newspaper.

I have a few videos of them singing on my YouTube channel and will be adding more later on at alite11 so if you want to check it out go here.

They're really getting serious about improving their talents, so we're working with them to help them be the best that they can be which will require me to free up some more time to spend with them - writing new songs, continued vocal training and attend performances as well as improving my own vocal skills.

Right now they're raising funds to purchase more instruments - guitars, mics, drums etc. So we've made some handcrafted/crocheted purses, skirts, hats and doll clothes to fund their project. I'll be showcasing some of these items online very soon.

Feel free to make a donation on my blog. You'll see the donate button on the right-hand side. I do appreciate your contribution and support.

As I free up some more of my time, I'm making some changes to how I'm working on the internet. So starting next Tuesday August 21, I'll be doing fewer weekly posts.

So keep an eye out for my next post as I'll be unveiling the new structure and training so you can continue to grow and empower yourself.
